SUMMARY 

Hulu’s Consumer and Market Insights team is seeking a Senior Manager, Strategic Insights who will be an outstanding addition to the team. As a Senior Manager, Strategic Insights at Hulu, you will lead a small team tasked with conducting primary research initiatives around subscriber growth, engagement and retention, to inform Hulu’s marketing, product and overall business strategy.  This person will also act as a team lead, providing direct guidance and mentorship to junior researchers on best research practices and skills development, while also providing consultative thought partnership and insights narratives to key research stakeholders.  The right person for this role is someone passionate about storytelling with consumer data and having an impact with insights, and who is comfortable overseeing multiple sophisticated projects at once.  This position will be on-site in Santa Monica, CA up to four days/week.

WHAT YOU’LL DO

  • Develop actionable insights and strategies to address key business objectives, by synthesizing relevant data sources (primary, secondary, or first-party) to tell a clear and holistic story.

  • Provide consultative thought partnership and strategic recommendations to senior leaders of key areas of the business to impact priorities, particularly those focused on product experience, subscriber lifecycle, engagement, and churn

  • Partner with senior leadership to develop roadmap of research initiatives based on relevant priorities of the Hulu business

  • Oversee team’s management of end-to-end process of planning and executing qualitative and quantitative research studies (i.e. questionnaire development, programming, and testing surveys, analyzing results, and producing final reports), both as in-house DIY studies and with external research partners.

  • Lead, mentor and develop a team of researchers, including providing business updates, guidance on skills development, career growth opportunities, and support on resourcing and prioritization

 

WHAT TO BRING

  • BA/BS preferred 

  • Passion for understanding consumer needs and attitudes and translating them into business strategies, particularly in the technology, media and/or entertainment sectors.

  • Subject matter expertise in understanding consumer behavior in a subscription business

  • 8+ years of custom research project experience, preferably with a mix of both vendor and client side experience

  • 2+ years of team management experience

  • Experience with managing all phases in successful execution of research projects, including managing timelines, questionnaire design, data collection and analysis, reporting and presentations.  Proven ability to manage multiple projects at a given time.

  • In-depth knowledge of a variety of market research methodologies, with experience applying those methodologies to business objectives to achieve actionable insights and KPI impact

  • Strong problem-solving and critical thinking skills to apply to both research execution and business questions

  • Excellent data analysis skills and detail orientation, particularly with large quantitative or qualitative datasets

  • Excellent verbal and written communication and data visualization skills

  • Persuasive, ability to influence others, including senior leaders by leveraging data and communication skills

  • Proactive, adaptive, and collaborative work style

NICE-TO-HAVES

  • Experience with non-primary data sources (secondary research, social media data, first-party behavioral data)

  • Experience with SPSS or R as well as data visualization tools such as Tableau

The hiring range for this position in Santa Monica, CA is $133,800.00 to $183,900.00 per year. The base pay actually offered will take into account internal equity and also may vary depending on the candidate’s geographic region, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience among other factors. A bonus and/or long-term incentive units may be provided as part of the compensation package, in addition to the full range of medical, financial, and/or other benefits, dependent on the level and position offered.
