Job Description

Disney Media & Entertainment Distribution (DMED) is seeking an experienced Post-Production Engineering with an emphasis in Visual Effects/Graphics who will work closely with FX Network’s award-winning Marketing team. This team utilizes industry standard software tools to generate and complete graphics in a fast turn television broadcast environment. The Engineer must have excellent communication skills and be able to consult, train, knowledge share, interact, and develop relationships with artists, creative directors, and management.

Responsibilities and Duties of the Role:

  • High-level front-line technical support for all post-production infrastructures.
  • Research, diagnose, troubleshoot and identify solutions to resolve customer issues.
  • Follow standard procedures for proper escalation of unresolved issues to the appropriate internal teams
  • Assess, troubleshoot, and resolve user issues and failures.
  • Perform system monitoring, verifying the integrity and availability of all hardware, server resources, systems, and key processes, reviewing system and application logs.
  • Orchestrate workstation management, imaging, and configuration using JAMF and Altiris.
  • Document knowledge in the form of knowledge base tech notes and articles

Basic Qualifications:

  • Good understanding of modern rendering techniques, graphics hardware and rendering APIs
  • Knowledgeable of storage systems, including: Quantum, Isilon and Avid Nexis.
  • Knowledgeable in TCP/IP networking and Fiber Channel fabrics.
  • Understanding post-production principles, systems and workflows including: Editing, Audio Mixing, VFX, Motion Graphics, and Print.
  • Skilled in macOS, Windows, and Linux operating systems.
  • Knowledgeable of cloud systems. Preferably AWS and Azure.
  • Understanding and ability to support remote desktop workflows especially workflows base on the PCoiP protocol.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Can quickly prioritize decisions when given incomplete or conflicting information.
  • Highly self-directed; able to manage and (re)prioritize multiple concurrent and competing challenges and issues.
  • Strong analytical problem-solving skills.
  • Knowledge and experience with reading technical drawings and documentation.
  • Operating knowledge of the following software and ability to test and resolve technical issues.
  • Adobe Creative Cloud
  • Nuke
  • Maya
  • HoudiniFX
  • C4D
  • Deadline
  • Unreal
  • Resolve
  • Flame
  • A variety of graphics plugins
  • Programming or Scripting experience in Python, JavaScript and NodeJS
  • Rendering workflows including Redshift or other GPU renderers and the ability to create and maintain rendering farm
  • Understanding VFX Pipelines and contribute to their development
  • Understand the principles of:
  • Compositing
  • Animation
  • 2D and 3D Design
  • Aces Workflows
  • Rec 2020 and 2100
  • Required Education, Experience/Skills/Training

Four-year college degree or equivalent work experience required.

  • At least 3+ years of work experience in the VFX industry.
  • Candidates who seek employment with The Walt Disney Company must be available to work any shift in a 24/7 facility.
  • This position is covered under the Company’s collective bargaining agreement with NABET-CWA.

The pay rate for this role in California is $53.50 per hour.
