Reporting to the Vice President, Network Engineering and Operations, the Director, Telecom & Network Engineering and Operations will be responsible for leading the business-focused development and delivery of telecommunications and network services in the network development-operations (DevOps) model to multiple business segments, leading teams of cross functional members, and working closely with other executives to ensure the success of telecommunications and network initiatives across the company. This executive will enable telecommunications and networking innovation, stability, security, and reliability through a robust and forward-thinking network reliability engineering mindset.
Responsibilities:
Leadership & Strategy:
Provide strategic direction for regional and global network engineering, telecommunications, and operations.
Develop and execute roadmaps for telephony, voice, video, UCaaS, and enterprise networking services.
Lead major transformation programs including refresh, modernization, and DevOps-based delivery models.
Ensure measure-based decision making and champion metrics programs to track success and enable continuous service improvements (CSI).
Drive velocity and delivery acceleration, change lead times, improve rate of production deployments or configuration pushes, increase tasks handled via automation vs. manually, facilitate operational efficiency, and ensure resilience and reliability of network and telecommunications services.
Technical Oversight:
Manage multi-site infrastructures including theme parks, studios, broadcast centers, and corporate offices.
Oversee SIP, Wireless, VoIP, PBX, UCaaS, and IP-based network architectures with a focus on observability and automated delivery.
Ensure compliance with telecom regulations and industry standards (e.g., NIST SP 800-53 / SP 800-171, CSA Cloud Controls Matrix, General Data Protection Regulation, Payment Card Industry Data Security Standard, ISO/IEC 27001 & 27002, E911, Kari’s Law, RAY BAUM’s Act, etc.).
NetDevOps Transformation:
Champion the implementation of CI/CD, agile delivery, and self-healing network systems.
Inspire and engage teams to embrace the DevOps vision, overcome resistance, and drive innovation.
Partner with automation and architecture teams to develop scalable, reliable solutions.
Drive cultural change around collaboration, continuous improvement, and reliability engineering.
Team Development:
Lead and inspire high-performing engineering and operations teams across network and telecom disciplines.
Attract and retain talent while supporting knowledge-sharing and a culture of innovation.
Manage budgets, vendors, and labor resources including union and hourly workforces.
Stakeholder Engagement:
Serve as a business liaison across segments to align solutions with business outcomes and organizational goals.
Engage with vendors and partners to develop innovative technologies.
Travel (up to 20%) for stakeholder meetings, site visits, and strategic deployments.
Qualifications:
10+ years of progressive leadership in telecommunications, network engineering, infrastructure operations, or SRE roles.
Experience leading NetDevOps or reliability engineering transformations in large-scale enterprises.
Solid technical expertise in SIP, VoIP, UCaaS, IP and Wireless networking, structured cabling, and observability platforms.
Proven success in business relationship management and stakeholder engagement.
Strong vendor management, budgeting, and regulatory compliance experience.
Ability to lead in unionized environments and manage diverse field operations teams.
Preferred Qualifications:
Master’s degree (MBA, Engineering, IT Systems) or certifications such as CCNA Voice, CWNA, BICSI RCDD, ITIL, PMP, etc.
12+ years of progressive leadership experience in telecommunications and/or IT infrastructure field support/operations.
Education:
Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Telecommunications, Engineering, or related field required.
